PORTRAITS TO THE AVENUE
Greenwich Arts Center
Saturday, May 21, 2005
1 pm to 3 pm

Come to Greenwich on May 21 and sit for a while!  As a new addition to this year’s Art to the Avenue celebration, the Greenwich Arts Council has invited five members of the CT Society of Portrait Artists (CSOPA) to do live sketches on Saturday, May 21, from 1 pm to 3 pm outside and in front of the Greenwich Arts Center, 299 Greenwich Avenue.  If weather demands, sketch sessions will move indoors.  Professional portraitists working in a variety of media including charcoal, sanguine, and oil, will sketch during half-hour sittings available on a first come, first served basis.  The cost is $40 per drawing.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our members to interact with the public,” observes CSOPA Founder and Co-chair, Jeanine Jackson.  “Most of us have witnessed street artists in piazzas or craft fairs create detailed likenesses usually beginning with the eyes.  CSOPA members work differently, employing classical techniques and large shapes to capture gesture, value patterns, and general character.”  Examples of these timeless works of art may be found on the CT Society’s website, www.csopa.org.
